pandora bracelet opener
Why is it rude to ask where someone got you a present from?

I was just talking to my mum while she was putting a bow on a box and she said that she had started Christmas shopping. She opened a draw and I saw the intended present [she was not angry] and I asked her where she got it from and she wouldn’t tell me because it’s rude to ask that. Why is it rude to ask someone where they got you a present from? I wasn’t trying to be rude, I just wanted to know because I hadn’t seen the charms for it before (it was a pandora bracelet).

Thanks.

I don’t necessarily think it is rude … it depends upon the circumstances.

For example if the gift is something you can get accessories for, it’s perfectly appropriate to ask where they got it. Something like …

“Wow, I love that bracelet, where can I get more charms for it?”

Or, “I really like that sweater you got me, where can I find more in a similar style?”
